Community Involvement History
Co-founder of Boy Scouts of America-Venturing Crew 247, Hillsboro, Oregon, 2014-2019
Role: leading and guiding teens and adults ages 14-21 living in group and foster homes who are receiving services for mental health challenges and developmental delays from Albertina Kerr, teaching them valuable character-building and life-skills in an adventurous and exciting setting.
Spoke on behalf of Crew 247 at the Friends of Scouting breakfast in April, 2016, raising more than $20,000, all benefiting local Scouts. I also spoke for Crew 247 at the BedMart warehouse & offices in Wilsonville, Oregon, to thank them for their generous donation of 3,000 Tempur Pedic mattresses to people receiving services from Albertina Kerr. Local television news stations were present, along with the C.E.O. of Albertina Kerr
Served as Vice President of Program (11/2014 - 5/2015), Quartermaster (5/2015 - 12/2015), Crew President (12/2015 - 7/2016), and Crew Mentor & Guide (7/2016 - 8/2019).
I am currently involved in a consultant capacity
Amnesty International, protector of human rights and human rights defenders across the globe
Role: member; active involvement in numerous projects including holding governments accountable for human rights violations, pressuring the international community to correct their wrongs.
Kerr Bikes, Portland, Oregon, community bicycle repair and rental services, with proceeds benefiting Albertina Kerr’s services for people with developmental disabilities; consistently since 2015
Role: maintaining bicycle and other rentals; keeping the grounds clean and safe; exhibiting excellent customer service to ensure a positive customer experience
Free Geek, Portland, Oregon: non-profit community-based electronic recycling and repair; Summer, 2016.
Role: communicating efficiently with experienced supervisors and disassembling computer monitors and towers and then sorting for either donation or recycling
Oak Grove Academy Harvest Festival volunteer. 11/2015-17, Gales Creek, Oregon
Role: Assisting and leading fellow students as they serve & greet families, community members, and Forest Grove School District executives
Spoke at two Albertina Kerr board meetings to present my story and how living with developmental delays has impacted me and how it can be challenging, yet empowering. 5/2016
Continue to advocate for an increase in Direct Support Professionals’ wages and communicate with Oregon legislators and care providers, so they can better support themselves and their families, as well as the people they support.
